Statement on the President-Elect Biden’s Choice for HUD Secretary

The following statement can be attributed to Lisa Hershey, Executive Director:

The last four years of the Trump White House were disastrous for families struggling the most to afford a stable home. As we turn the page, we look forward to the chance to start anew with Rep. Marcia Fudge as HUD Secretary, who understands that stable, affordable housing and quality health care go hand in hand, especially amid COVID-19, and that Black and Brown communities suffer the most from a lack of both. This is exactly the perspective we need to lead the Department.

“President-elect Joe Biden has shown his commitment to evidence-based measures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Now it’s time to extend those principles to affordable housing and homelessness — working with Rep. Fudge to enact proven measures, funded to meet the scale of the need, to ensure Americans have an actual home in order to shelter in place. Using the forthcoming Roadmap HOME as a template, we’ll be doing our part in the Golden State to lead the way towards creating homes, health and prosperity for all, and we look forward to working closely with Rep. Fudge as Secretary.
